PHESP Review
For the kids..
ESPV often takes on free painting projects when it’s for local charities that need a little help raising awareness. In Hong Kong, there are a lot of fat-cats and money-minded individuals that care about wealth, financial gain, and exploitive consumption over social well-being and living standards.
In recent weeks HK has seen many cases portrayed in the media of families who are feeling the wealth gap growing larger and the pressure it’s putting on families trying to make a decent living. As the rich slowly get richer, many low income families claim that the middle and lower classes are not benefiting from the so-called ‘economic rewards’.
Last month in Tin Shui Wai, a well-know residential area for low-income families mainly from China, a mother killed her 9yo daughter and 5yo son by binding their arms and legs and throwing them out her 15 storey flat window before jumping to her death. The woman who was mentally disturbed had sought help previously but was given little or no real attention or support. The woman’s husband, who is currently in hospital with cancer, was unable to work and bring in money for the family. This is about the fifth case this year of low-income family domestic violence that has resulted in the death of more than one family member, and about the third case to strike the Tin Shui Wai area.
Many residents of Tin Shui Wai and other similar residential suburbs claim that free help is not readily available and many families coming from China to HK to try and make a living simply don’t know how to seek help and support. The public are speaking out and demanding for more support programs from the government which, at times seem to be more concerned with the HK stock market results.
In supporting the call for more support, PHilfy.ESP recently approached the local HK Family Charity Organization and offered to paint at any fund raising event for free and the charity gladly accepted. Together with GF Lowina, they painted a simple, light, and happy-family design for an awareness day held in Tai Po. The day was a great success and many parents were so thankful to see young artists lending a hand to raise awareness for a much needed cause.
