What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

(I recently got this email from a friend, who got it from a friend.. pretty funny stuff. In a depressing kind of way)

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...
A billion dollars...
A hundred billion dollars...
Eight hundred billion dollars...
One TRILLION dollars...
What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take
Google Sketchup (Google it) out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slightly fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?
It's pretty surprising.
Go ahead...
Scroll down...
Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars...

Notice those pallets are double stacked....and remember those are $100 bills.
So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.

UFOs In Bethnal Green

Google Street View has caught many strange things on camera but this is the best so far:
A sensational sighting of a formation of extraterrestrial vehicles swooping over the mean streets of Bethnal Green.

They sure don't look like airplanes.

A group of friends wanted to go skiing. When they arrived to a ski resort, a bad surprise was waiting for them.

George the Giant Sets a Record

George the Giant set the world record for the total weight of concrete blocks broken while resting on his chest while laying on a bed of nails.

40 blocks at an average weight of 34.5 pounds each make 1380 pounds total concrete. Then there's the 30-ish pound platform and of course George's own weight all resting on the bed of nails.

And that's before you start swinging sledge hammers to break the blocks.

Oh, and did I mention that they set the blocks on fire?

"Ouch" seemed like the word of the day.

All this took place as the half-time entertainment during an Arena Football match on the home turf of the Bakersfield Blitz. Check out the Flickr set.

I grew up in the suburbs of south London. I've always loved cartoons and I had these 3 or so issues of 2000ad that I'd stare at endlessly, they were just the odds and ends of a load of different stories but the ambiguity of that and the exquisitely dirty artwork fascinated me. Tagging was just something we did as kids skating round town from about '94-'95 onward. Quickly graffiti became more important to me than skating, but then I was always a crap skater..

Dananananaykroyd… what an elusive name! But this wicked trick seems to have worked very well to intrigue us. Loaded with dangerously loud music and dual drummers (6 of them altogether), this is already something to be reckoned with, but also having identified themselves as ‘Fight-Pop’, this Glaswegian band successfully pull ahead of their contemporaries...

What If? is technically the largest independent consultancy around innovation. Our independence is actually very important to us because it has allowed us to really explore our character and do things differently all along. Basically we are in four locations around the world, born in England about 15 years ago and we’re now also in New York, Manchester and Shanghai. I think we stretch around 20 business hours a day now, as and when needed.
