1000Mph Car - The Race Is On

Yes, the race for the new land speed record is on. The current record stands at 763Mph set by Briton Andy Green in 1997.
The target is now 1000Mph, with Green and 2 other contenders vying for the title. One from North America and the other from Australia.

The British team is Bloodhound SSC, the Australian team is Aussie Invader, and the US/Canadian team is North American Eagle who have already built their machine and have been conducting test runs with an aim to set the record on the 4th July 2010.

Breaking the sound barrier in the air is one thing, but on land it's a whole new ball game.
"...as the vehicle approaches the speed of sound, it produces a frontal shock wave which liquefies the earth ahead, so the wheels end up carving through ground, rather than simply rolling over it."

Pandora is Dead

I am a sad sad man today. Saturday morning is the perfect time to put the amazing Pandora radio station on and get on with something creative. However, for all Pandora's users outside of the USA, we have been officially switched off. Due to licensing restrictions, we can no longer listen to Pandora outside of the US. Gutted! Surely, there must be a huge demand for a Pandora UK branch. Anyone interested?

Plant Speakers

This is a bit of a dated post but I still absolutely love the idea of listening to sound through a plant!!! Details below;

"Ka-ons" use flowers instead of cone-shaped paper boards as oscillation boards of speakers. The device is arranged in the following manner: the magnet and coil of the oscilatting part are contained in an acrylic tube, which in turn vibrates when the oscillation section does. Flowers touching this tube will also vibrate. Since sound is emitted from the petals and leaves, the setup functions as a directionless speaker.

Lets Corporation has explained this technology by saying "we have added the fifth and final sense, 'sound,' to the four senses already expressed by flowers - 'color (sight),' 'scent (smell),' 'honey (taste),' and 'feeling (touch).' By using all five of these, we have raised the the healing effects." The company has said it plans sale of 36,000 sets in a year.
