Alligator Gar Fish

This fish may look like a crocodile, but it's not one. This monster fish is called the alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula) and it is a primitive ray-finned fish. The alligator gar is the largest exclusively freshwater fish found in North America, measuring eight to ten feet and weighing at least 200 lb (91 kg) at maturity. The current world record for the largest Alligator Gar caught on rod and reel is 279 lb (127 kg). The fish is also known for its ability to survive outside the water, being able to last for up to two hours above the surface.

I'm so curious about when and where these pics were taken. We used to live on Lake Chicot in Lake Village, Arkansas and it was thought one time that a child had been bitten by a small gar fish that some thought might have been an alligator. Unbelievable looking "fish"!!!
